6. part
…and here we are again, with the new year under way, full of energy, always in the front line, always close to our children with all the back up coming from Italy…..Margherita and Orsola, on their second round, arrived here loaded…..they were immediately taken to the slums to bring their help and your clothes, and then they were immediately taken to the Camillian Social Center in Rayong to visit our little ones affected by Aids…..and this is where I’m going to pause…..it’s their first visit, one of those truly intense moments….Father Giovanni invited us to see the different areas, he explains that all this has to be fought, and overcome with love..the kind of love you can give every day, the “normal” love that all of us experience in our own families….but then we enter the room for the lethally ill….the final destination that cannot be overlooked…..we bring our smiles with us…to help them cross the line…there’s no more we can do for them….we just look at each other…..and then small voices start rising from the outside, like Jessy’s voice (I talked about her last time) and we are reminded that some of them win the race for life…slowly, but surely….silently….without too much fuss….without any spotlights….they line up for dinner…..at a certain point we leave the center…but not before we have said goodbye to all of them….not before we ideally embrace each member of Father Giovanni’s staff, and the
Father himself…..we have committed ourselves to their cause…..and then we leave for our everyday life, which is not necessarily easier, we go back to changing, feeding and playing with the orphans….we keep on doing what some of us were born to do….and then we had the parties…for example Children’s Day…here in Thailand it is a really big event…..the orphanage organized quite a few activities for the kids….for example, team games that involved everyone to exhaustion…and happy faces are all around us….thanking us, and thanking you for all the energy you send from Italy…and we might say from all around the World as well…since in 2008 we received visits to our site from 56 different countries…even from New Zealand…..this is fantastic….let’s keep it up….throughout 2009 as well…..let’s continue our work, which is difficult but very intense….let’s keep on giving these children a happy future….thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I’ll see you next time…….
