Travel journal 2010/11 - 2. part

As I promised in the last part of the journal, I am going to tell you about the kids we help in Pattaya. First of all we will bring you up to date on the slum kids. We got a newborn in one of the slums, his name is Nat and even though he is slightly underweight, he's full of energy like all newborns. His mother lives in one of the huts with two older children (one boy and a girl) and her companion. In order to survive, the mother begs

in the streets and the father tries to land jobs in construction sites around the area. Unfortunately though, the economic crisis is really striking hard on the poorest communities and they barely make it. Take Care Kids gives them powdered milk and some of the colthes you donated on a regular basis, and when they really cannot make it, we give them rice and other food supplies to support the whole family.

Rememeber Uhn? The little girl whose father died from Aids and whose mother is HIV Positive and tries to gather some money cleaning rooms in a guest house? Well she's doing better....After the rainy season (which caused 160 deaths this year), where she got fungus and flaky skin, she has recovered and is jumping around like a cricket now, and as soon as she sees me she starts asking for some candies or to be more specific for some chewing gum.
And while some fight to survive in the slums, others are "dropped off" at the orphanage in ever increasing numbers, but in this case, thank goodness, they are all well. Nopparat (the blind orphan) will finally be going to a center for the blind and this will help him grow in a more secure and independent way. All the other children are well, and we can tell by the fact that whenever they see me, they're always asking to be taken either to the pool, or to Mc Donalds or to the beach, meaning they really enjoy our field trips.
Take Care Kids Thailand will make its first public appearance in the Christmas Market starting on November 26th (a little early but that's how things work here), therefore we are looking for a "christmasy" piece of craft that might represent TCK in the best way (I've already thought of something but it's not defined yet, I'll let you know). As you can see we are loaded with work and energy sooooooo....hang on for the next part of the journal which will be full of great news!.....see you next time!
